This Mother’s Day, we created lasting memories with mom at Nowhere Entertainment. While honoring mothers has a long history, this year, we celebrated mom with fun activities like mini golf, escape rooms, and delicious Mom-osas!
An Ancient Tradition Originating in Greece and Rome
Honoring mothers extends back centuries to ancient Greece and Rome. Spring festivals celebrated goddesses symbolizing motherhood and childbirth. But these parties did not give moms much of a break. In fact, the spring gatherings were organized and run by mothers themselves!
Mother’s Day and Mothering Sunday
In the 1500s, Mothering Sunday, took place on the fourth Sunday in lent in the UK, Ireland, and other Commonwealth countries. People returned to their “mother” church in their hometown to spend the day with their families and moms.
In the United States, Mother’s Day is a more recent occurrence. Anna Jarvis founded Mother’s Day on May 12, 1907, in Grafton, West Virginia. She organized a small memorial service to honor her mother’s selfless work improving living conditions for mothers and their children. Anna hoped to create an annual day that celebrated all mothers. Her dream became reality on May 9, 1914 when Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Mother’s Day a national holiday. Many other countries now observe Mother’s Day on the Second Sunday in May.
Nowhere Entertainment Celebrates Mothers with Mini Golf, Escape Rooms and Mom-osas!
Nowhere Entertainment hosted a memorable Mother’s Day weekend! Unlike centuries past, Nowhere Entertainment pampered all types of moms with fun activities where we did all the work! Moms received a free round of mini golf on the course – which celebrated them with flowers, Mom’s Day banners, and signs A sunny day was the perfect backdrop for the laughter, and playful competition on the course. One family had a tie for their mini golf title between Mom and Grandma! Both women toasted each other with special Mother’s Day mom-osas from Nowhere Entertainment’s concession stand.
Nowhere Escape rooms were also a hit! Families took advantage of the “4MOM” Mother’s Day special to celebrate mom with a fun escape room challenge. Solving puzzles and working together might become a new Mother’s Day tradition for many.
